Cubby Storage
The word “cubby” conjures up thoughts of cute and
compact. These are great words to describe cubby storage along with versatility, organization and easily
compatible. It’s an all around great way to put things in their place in any environment.
One use of cubbies in the home is to organize those items that
are used on a daily basis, especially kids stuff, such as coats, snow pants, hats, mitts, boots, slippers and other
miscellaneous clothing items. Many homes even incorporate this kind of storage right into the building of the
house itself. It’s a practical approach to keeping items neatly arranged, and once children are in a home, we
all need these ingenious ways to stay organized and clutter-free.
Another storage need in the home is to keep toys and other
belongings accessible, in order and out of the way. The clever concept of cubbies makes them an appropriate
piece of furniture for bedrooms, playrooms and living rooms. The basic design of this type of storage is
square and rectangular spaces to accommodate various storage options. The styles are numerous, however, and
there is sure to be one to fit any setting and storage needs. You can get a cubby made with wire, various
types of wood or moulded plastic. There are some with removable trays, stackable sections, slanted
holes to better hold items and other style options to perfectly fit your storage requirements.
If you’ve ever walked into a building that serves children in
any way like daycares, elementary schools, churches, or playschools, you’ve seen the way cubbies can be of great
use. The institutional requirements of maintaining a safe and organized atmosphere means that appropriate
storage is of high importance. Cubbies are used for different purposes in an institutional setting, but the
high traffic area of the coatroom is the most popular, and recommended, space that suitable storage, like cubbies,
is needed.
A marvellous locker style design is a “5 section Locker Cubby
with Step”. This unit would be functional in a home or for institutional usage (buying more units as
needed). There is a top and bottom storage, which can house bins for easier access and storage, a double hook
to hang coats and backpacks, and - the most appealing part - a step for the children to sit on to get boots and
shoes on. There are lots of these locker style cubbies out there, without the step. It’s a simple and
space saving resolution to the problem of the confusion that is often associated with cramped quarters of coatrooms
in houses and institutions alike. No need to have an alternate piece of furniture to sit when you can get a
cubby with a step. It’s a much appreciated feature on this cubby!
There’s a popular saying that’s befitting to cubby storage
-“There’s a place for everything, and everything has its place!” Cubbies can be useful in practically any home or
institutional setting - the possibilities are almost endless. They’re good for shoe storage, crafts, games,
many uses in an office setting, but most popular for keeping those daily used items in their
place.
